Walk description:

Start your walk from the car park by the Train Station. Walk towards the main A31 road which will take you to either Alton or Winchester.

You will come across a church on the right. Turn into the churchyard and head left towards the West door of the church. Once past the door you will come out into West Street.

You need to cross the road and head into Broad Street. Walk all the way down Broad street and you will come out into Mill Hill. Turn left into Ladywell Lane and walk to the end of the small lane.

Take the small footpath to the right, follow the path around until you reach the bottom of The Dean. If you wish to have a shorter walking route simply walk up The Dean and you will come back out onto the main road (A31) which you simply cross and head back down Station Road to the car park.

If you are happy to continue turn right on the footpath which passes over the bottom of The Dean and onto the riverside path. After 150 metres you will come across a kissing gate. Pass through and head right. If you have any trouble with access simply head back to the bottom of The Dean and follow the route as suggested above.

When you reach the gate to the recreation ground turn left. You will now be walking along The Avenue. When you get to the end of this road head left into Pound Hill. Walk along the A31 into West Street. You can either cross the road and head back to the car park in Station Road or turn into Broad Street and enjoy some refreshments.

Additional notes:

The walk explores this lovely Georgian town and the riverside.

The paths are mainly hardened. You will come across several notice boards along the route, giving information and a map.

SO24 9JG for Sat Nav users - this will take you to the train station.

This is a beautiful walk down by the watercress beds and the River Itchen that I have done many times when my
legs worked and a couple of times on my mobility scooter. But watch out those pushing a wheelchair as there
is a stiff up when you leave the river. Don't forget your camera.
