Walk description:

To get to Priddys Hard, turn off the M27 at Junction 11. Then take the A32 at Fort Brockhurst, and follow the brown tourist signs to Explosion Museum. For Sat. Nav. users the postcode is PO12 4LE

Priddys Hard overlooks Portsmouth Harbour and the historic ships of the Royal Naval Dockyard. Priddy's Hard is richly endowed with historic buildings, impressive earthworks and open spaces.

Parking is just before the Explosion Museum, along Heritage Way. Once parked, opposite the Harbour, you will see an open space with a solid path going across it. Initially the path is tarmac, and then after a few yards it becomes a solid compact path.

Go along this path. When you come to the T Junction, turn left, and you will be walking along with a green fence on your right. Go along the path. There is an open grass area on your left.

You will then walk along side some houses on your right. On your left is heath land. Follow the path around to the right, walking along side some trees. You will then come to Priddys Head Coastal Common Nature Reserve. You are unable to go in here as it disturbs the wildlife living there. You just walk along the path around it.

Just after the Nature Reserve the path becomes tarmac again. You will then see a small child playing area. Turn left here, and you will join another solid compact path. Follow the path around to the right. Keep walking and on your right you will see a small field that sometimes has horses in it.

The path will then become tarmac again. In front of you is another play area. At the fork in the path, go left along the tarmac path. There are grass areas on both sides of the path. Also on your left is a water area, with a bench next to it. When you get to the open metal gate in front of you, you need to turn around and retrace your steps back to where you parked.

Just before you get back to the beginning of the walk, there are lovely views over the Harbour.

Additional notes:

You can also explore the museum 'Explosion', however there is an entrance fee. Also it is not open ever day. The museum is a modern providing a complete visitor experience with a full range of facilities and access for all visitors. At the Museum there is a gift shop, and a coffee shop with magnificent views of Portsmouth Harbour.

The coffee shop can be accessed without paying the museum entrance fee. The coffee shop also has two toilets, which are accessible for wheelchair

This is a piece of grass land in the middle of a built up area. Pleasant short walk.
