Walk description:

There are several places to park for this walk. There is the pay and display car park, which is on your right as you drive into Broadwater Road.

Alternatively there is free short stay parking along The mead.

Start the walk at the Corn Market. Walk down the Abbey and into The Meads. On your left you will come to Romsey War Memorial Gardens. This is a large well maintained gardens which is well worth walking around. As you turn in to the Gardens there is a river on your left where lots of ducks can be found. Walk along through the Gardens, past the War Memorial and the bandstand on your right, past the Tennis Courts and you will come to a Children Play area.

Walk past the children play area and continue around the Gardens. You will walk past a large Second World War Japanese Gun. Continue past the gun and you will see a toilet block on your left. There are disabled toilets here, as well as baby changing facilities. Just passed here is a caf�.

The Cafe in the Gardens is open on a seasonal basis (March - October) and offers outdoor seating with a variety of drinks, ice creams and snack.

Continue past the caf� until you get back to where you entered the Gardens. Turn left and continue walking along The Mead. This part of the walk is along a very quiet road that has no pavements.

You will come to a bridge which goes over the river, turn left and in front of you is a tarmac footpath. This is Green Hill View. Walk all the way to the end of the lane. On your left are houses, and on your right are open fields. At the end of the lane you will come to a kissing gate. Go through the kissing gate and then walk over a bridge that goes across the river. From the bridge you have lovely views over the river and riverbank.

Next walk along a gravel path, walking along side Sadlers Mill. By the bench on your left you will join an uneven track. Walk all the way to the end and you will then join the main road. This part of the walk goes along side the river.

At the main road, turn left and walk along the pavement, over the bridge along a tarmac path. Keep walking along and you will get to a paving stone pavement. Go along here and walk between houses until you get back to the Corn Market.


Additional notes:

The terrain is easy , made up of mainly tarmac paths. There are drop kerbs all along the route which makes the route acceptable for wheelchairs.

There are toilets and eating facilites in Romsey Town Centre.

A lovely walk

This is a lovely walk around part of Romsey and the riverside. The War Memorial Gardens are worth walking
around and are very well maintained.
