Walk description:

Sunnyhurst Wood is beautiful 85 acre wooded valley, with Sunnyhurst Brook flowing down through the wood from the West Pennine Moors

The park is 1 mile from junction 4, M65, head towards Darwen on A666 or 1 mile from Darwen town centre, head towards Blackburn on A666.

Turn up Earnsdale Road from A666 following the brown tourist signs, the wood is to the right.

There are routes within the wood (Herbert Parkinson that do not have any steps or stiles) This is also an interactive route for older children. and leaflets are available free of charge from the visitor centre.


Additional notes:

The visitor centre is open Thursday - Sunday and bank holidays -1 to 4.30pm.

The car parking facilities within the wood adjacent to the visitor centre are for disabled visitors only. Alternatively there is a level access entrance off Earnsdale Road directly opposite Salisbury Road, this route leads along a level track to the visitor centre.

For other visitors there is parking on Earnsdale Road. Walk down one of the several paths to the right into the wood or follow the brown tourist signs all the way up Earnsdale Road to the car park just beyond the Sunnyhurst pub and Lychgate Hotel.

You can explore other parts of the Woods however it can be quite steep in places with the odd step. Definitely for the adventurous or fit!
