Wells-Next-The-Sea Harbour

LOCALITY: Wells-Next-The-Sea, Norfolk
DISTANCE: 2 miles (3.22 km)
FACILITIES: Circular route, There & back, Parking, Suitable for wheelchairs, T

GRADIENT: Mostly flat
OS MAP: Norfolk Coast Central

Walk description:

Flat straight walk alongside the harbour / salt marshes at Wells-Next-The-Sea on a tarmac path. Either start at the quay in Wells or at the pay and display car park at the end of Beach Road.

The ramp to/from the beach car park (and toilets/cafe) is rather steep. Care is needed for wheelchair users.

Once on the path alongside the salt flats it is an easy walk/wheel. The path is in good condition and wide. Views across the flats and to Wells.

Approx 1 mile each way.

Additional notes:

A steep grass bank is between the path and Beach Road, so once you're on the path you can only go forward or back in pretty much a straight line.

Parking is pay and display. Some disabled parking spaces at the beach car park (can't remember if any at quay).

There is a short boardwalk and views of the beach if you turn left at the top of the ramp from the beach car park. But it is really rather steep.

Train rides too

This is a great little walk - we tried it in the summer. The quay end of the walk has toilets and a play area.
Which ever way round you do it, there's the opportunity (at least in the summer) of coming most of the way
back on the miniature railway that runs alongside the road from the quay to the beach car park. Larger
"offroad" pushchairs might be difficult to get on the train though. However, not far away is the Wells /
Walsingham light railway which is slightly larger and slightly better equipped to transport bigger buggies./>
