Walk description:

Park at Loch Levens Larder, at Channel Farm, near Wester Balgedie. There is a farm shop, cafe and gift shop as well as toilets. Take the path down towards the loch in front of the Larder. Turn left at the bottom towards Carsehall Bog. The trail twists and turns through the Black Wood, with birch, willow, hazel and alder trees. Once out of the Black Wood the trail runs along an artificial bank, with a ditch, which drains the floodwater from surrounding farmland. There are open views across to Bishop Hill, where gliders take off from Port Moak, Scotlands National Gliding Centre and a Gliding for the Disabled centre.

The trail then enters pine woods at Levenmouth Plantation with a bird hide (not wheelchair-accessible) overlooking Levenmouth Pools. Follow the path round to the Cut (the artificially straightened course of the River Leven). Cross the bridge and continue round to the Sluice House. Although there is a steep gradient up to Findatie car park here, it is possible to avoid it by continuing at loch level past the sandy beach then picking up the other, gentler path up to the left a little further along.

Additional notes:

Although the main trail continues along the loch side to Vane Farm there is a stepped underpass leading to the reserve.
