Walk description:

If you are coming from Yeovil Town centre, drive along Lyde Road. Just pass St Johns Road on your left there is a turning on your right. This is the area that used to be Yeovils dump. The walk starts here. Parking is free.

Walk to the far end of the car park. Go through the gate of the access only road and walk along a large gravel path. If the large gate is locked there is a smaller gate next to it. It is a kissing gate that has bars over the top of it. This is not suitable for high or wide buggies.

The path slopes downwards. The path then becomes tarmac and then you need to go down a steep slope. After a while the path becomes compact stones/grass path, which is uneven in places.

Follow the path around to the right. The walk is mainly flat from here, until you get to Pittards. The path now has fields on the right, and on the left you can look down towards the river. As you continue along the path, you will be walking past pylons on your right. The river will now be more obvious on your left. You will come to a bench that over looks the river.

Shortly you will come to a bridge that goes over the river. Go under the bridge and on the other side you will see a low level open fence. Go right. The next section of the path is narrower. As you go along you will come to a wooden bridge that goes over a stream. Cross over the bridge, and then turn right along a grass path. You will then come to a wooden bridge.

Go across the bridge, and the path will become a compact mud path. You will now be walking among trees. After a while the grass will become a grass path, and you will come to another bench. Walk past the bench and take the gravel path on your right. You can look down across the river from here.

Go along the path. At the fork in the path, go left along a gravel path. The path is now a wide compact mud/gravel/grass path. When you look left you can see across to Babylon Hill. After a while you will come to a open area. Keep going along the gravel path that is in front of you, slightly to the left.

Follow the path around to the right, and down a small slope. There is a railway line on your right. Go up a small slope and you will be walking along side a fence, with the railway line behind it.

At the end of the path you will come to a gate that is locked. Next to it is a staggard opening. This is not wide enough to get a buggy through. You will either have to collapse the buggy and go through, or turn around and retrace your steps.

If you decide to continue, you will come out behind Pittards, on Flushing Meadow. Turn left and walk past the sewage work. Follow the road all the way around until you get to Sherborne Road. Turn right here and walk along until you get to the light crossing. Turn right here down a path towards Penn Mill Station.

Walk past Penn Mill Station. Go through the gap by a large metal gate, and turn left up Camborne Place. You will walk past the Great Western Pub. Walk all the way to the end of Camborne Place until you get to Lyde Road. When you to get to Brookers Cash and Carry there is a children play area opposite. Go by here and walk all the way up the hill to where you parked your car.

Additional notes:

This walk is better suited to all terrain buggies. It is not suitable for wheelchairs. When wet the paths can be muddy.
