Walk description:

This walk takes you through the village of Manton situated just outside Marlborough.

Leave the Marlborough leisure centre (SN8 1PB) turning right onto College Fields. Walk up this slight incline and through College Fields until you get to the roundabout at the edge of Barton Park. Turn right into Golding Avenue and follow the road round until reach a T junction. Turn left into Benjamin Road and walk along the pavement until you come across a pathway between two houses. When you get to the end of this pathway, turn left heading towards the main road(A4). Cross the A4 using the pedestrian crossing. Look for the cycle path signs and follow the path down into Manton.

There is an anti-bicycle barrier but this can be negotiated by buggies and wheelchairs. Walk toward Bridge Street and turn left. You will see a park on the right which is great for toddlers and then the Outside Chance Pub which is an ideal place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat.

On the left hand side of Bridge Street and opposite the Outside Chance is Preshute Lane. Take this road and head all the way down to the Preshute Churchyard. You will pass some of the college buildings on the left and you will see the tennis courts on the right. After passing through the churchyard you will go over a small foot bridge. Follow the path back to the main A4 road. Cross at the Pedestrian crossing and head towards Marlborough town centre. You will then see College Fields road on your left. Turn up into College Fields and take this path back to the leisure centre.

Additional notes:

There are toilets and a small cafe in the leisure centre. Parking is free at the leisure centre.

You could also choose to start your walks from the pub, enjoy a fantastic meal and then walk off the calories! For more information on the pub please refer to their web site http://www.theoutsidechance.co.uk/
