Walk description:

We started this walk from the Pelican Inn (SP3 4LT), which is on the A36 into Salisbury. The pub is a great place to have lunch and then walk off those calories! They do have a limited number of parking spaces but there are various roads just up from the pub that you could park in.

From the pub walk towards the petrol station and over the bridge. Cross the road and you will see a sign for a public right of way. This path will take you across some pasture land - the path is fenced in with sheep wire so you can't go wrong.

Cross over a small wooden bridge that is covered in chicken wire to prevent slippages and continue on the grassy track. You will come out in a residential area, with a house just to your left. Turn right up Chapel Lane and head towards the main road. Cross the main road into Butts Hill and make the small climb up this country lane.

You will find a row of houses to your left and you just continue to walk to the other end of this road. If you wanted to see some of the views over the village and you have an all terrain buggy you could explore the by way which is signposted on the right about 100 meters up the road. We tried this but could only get so far as the terrain was really muddy and uneven. However the views were amazing and worth the effort.

At the end of Butts Hill you will come across the main road running through the village, cross over towards Over Street. On the left you will have a gate that takes you into the village play ground and on the right hand side of the road is a gate that takes you to the river side and a few benches to stop and rest.

When you are ready, continue on along Over Street and you will then come back to the main road with the pub on it. Cross over and you will be back to the pub and your car!

Additional notes:

If you are interested in thatched properties, you do have the option to walk through the village of Stapleford when you get to the bottom of Butts Hill, but just be warned that there is no pavement. We tried this option as well and only 2 vehicles passed us. Maybe not ideal if you have small toddlers with you!
