Walk description:

Start from the front of the Cathedral, walking down the path to the right. You will go pass the Cathedral and then join a road called Broad Street. At the end of this road you will come to some houses and you need to turn left towards the car park and walk through this till you reach the road.

Turn right and head back towards the Cathedral on West Walk. Once you get to Choristers Green walk around the Green and then turn left into High Street. This will take you away from the Cathedral grounds and towards the town centre.

When you reach the main road turn left down Cranebridge Road and cross over. You will see signs for the Waterside Walk on your right. This will take you along the river and it will be on your left.

Go past the bridge on your left and you will come across the Kings Head Inn on your right. Turn right and head towards the Zebra crossing and cross over towards the Mill. When heading towards the Mill bear right and follow the path along the river with the river on your right.

You will come across a play centre on your left and then a Supermarket. Keep walking straight ahead and you will to a car park with toilets and a pub. Walk around the pub called the Boathouse (Jan 08). You will then be on a cycle path and you need to follow the signs to the Leisure Centre.

The path will go under the road. Keep following this path until you come to Ashley Road and then you need to cross over.

The path so far has been tarmac however when you get closer to the Leisure Centre it becomes compacted gravel. Follow this path to the recreation ground, which will be on your left. Keep on this path as you turn left, with the playing fields on your right. At the end of the path turn left and you will see the alloments on your left. Walk towards Ashley Road and when you get there turn left.

Walk along the road, passing the fire station on your right and look for the river side path again. Turn right down here and retrace your steps back to the Cathedral.

Additional notes:

There are several resting places and information boards along the route for the riverside section of the walk.

There are plenty of establishments for refreshments in the Cathedral and along the route.

There is the option to walk down the riverside walk by Waitrose - which is the other part of the river. However be warned this is not as pretty or enjoyable and there are a few places to cross without proper crossing facilities.

Salisbury Cathedral and Waterside Walk

This a lovely walk, that runs along side the river. It was possible to do it as a circular walk, coming back
along side Waitrose. However, I think it would of been better to turn around when you get to the recreation
park, and walk back by the river.

The terrain is ideal for buggies or wheelchairs, as it is
made up of a compact path and is flat.

It starts at the Cathedral which has a nice cafe. The
Cathedral is also very close to the City Centre which has other eating facilities.
