Walk description:

When you drive into Taunton Town Centre, park in any of the car park. Walk through the Town Centre, toward The Bridge, which is on the A3027, heading towards the railway station. The walk starts by Debenhams. Just after walking by Debenhams, which is on your left, turn left along a paved walkway. Walk around to your left going by public toilets, and then go across the bridge on your right.

Once you have crossed the bridge, turn left and you will get to a sign on your left saying Goodland Gardens. You can walk around Goodland Gardens until you arrive back to this sign. Opposite the sign is a bridge that crosses the river. Go across here and then turn left at the end.

This will take you along a footpath along side the river until you get to Clarence Street. Turn left here and you will come to French Weir Park. Turn left into the park, and walk straight on. You will come to a large Weir on your left. Follow the path around to your right. Walk by the public toilet. For the disabled toilets you will need a radar key.

At the end of the path turn left and walk along the river. Continue along the path and walk past a sign for Weir Field Nature Reserve. Just before a large bench, which has a Otters head, carved on it, turn right. This is a compact path that loops back to the beginning of the Nature Reserve. There are steps back up to the path, which has a slope next to it.

This area can be very muddy and water logged at times, so you may to turn around at the bench and retrace your route to French Weir Park. Once back at French Weir Park walk straight on along the boundary of the park.

At the end of the park, walk straight on back along Clarence Street. From here retrace the route back the way the way you came.

Additional notes:

This is a very pleasant river walk that leads to a very large weir, which is worth a visit.

There are toilets and eating facilities at the start of the walk in Taunton Town Centre.
