Walk description:

CAR PARK FOR THE WOOD IS JUST OFF A46 AS INDICATED ON THE MAP. IF COMING FROM ALCESTER ENTRANCE IS ON THE RIGHT, LEFT FROM STRATFORD. DRIVE UP A TRACK TO CAR PARK. ALL IS STRAIGHT FORWARD FROM THERE. AS EVER TAKE PRECAUTIONS, HIDE VALUABLES IN THE BOOT OUT OF SIGHT. 2.5 MILE DISTANCE AROUND THE WOOD IS APPROX. THE TRACK SURFACE IS MAINLY COMPACTED EARTH WITH STONES IN A FEW DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. THERE ARE SEVERAL SLOPES, THOUGH NONE TOO SEVERE, THIS HOWEVER I REALISE IS SUBJECTIVE BUT THERE IS ENOUGH FLAT TRACK IN EITHER DIRECTION TO KEEP EVERYONE HAPPY. I HAVE SEEN THE ODD 'BUGGY WITH BABY' BEING PUSHED. IN MAY THE WOOD PLAYS HOST TO MANY BLUEBELL FLOWERS, VERY ATTRACTIVE AND WORTH A VISIT.

Additional notes:

THE WOOD IS RUN/OWNED BY THE FORESTRY COMMISSION. THERE IS A WIDE 2m PLUS TRACK THAT RUNS CIRCULAR RIGHT AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE WOOD... FANTASTIC FOR POWERED WHEELCHAIRS. A STRONG PARA COULD NEGOTIATE THE FEW SLOPES WITH ASSITANCE. THE TRACK IS FIRM ALL AROUND, NO MUD ISSUES. BEAUTIFUL AND VARIED WOODLAND. LITTLE CHEF NEARBY ON THE A46 WHERE MAP SAYS 'MOTEL' FOR REFRESHMENTS/LOO LATER. IF YOU LIKE WOODS THIS IS FOR YOU, I'M THERE MOST WEEKS- SAY HI WHEN PASSING!
