Walk description:

This walk will take you around the market town of Marlborough. Start your walk from the Waitrose car park (SN8 1AA). You will see a park situated behind the public toilet block. Walk through the park until you cross a small bridge. Turn right and walk to the end of the pathway.

Once on George Lane (opposite police station) turn left and walk towards the mini roundabout. Cross the road and head down London Road towards Hungerford.

As you walk down the road you will go past TH whites on the left and just after this you will see a small lane on the left called Stonebridge Lane. Walk all the way to the other end of this until you get to St Martins. There is an incline up to the main road but the path is good.

Once at the main road head left and back into Marlborough. You will go along St Martins, until you get to the main road going through Marlborough (Barn Street). Cross over the road using the pedestrian crossing. Walk between the trees towards the town centre. You will pass a church on your right and come out by Henry George estate agents.

Walk down the right hand side of the high street until you come across a small alleyway called Chandlers Yard on your right. Walk up the walk way and you will come out in Back Lane. Turn left and walk all the way down the road to Hyde Lane.

Once on Hyde Lane turn left towards the main high street. Once on the high street turn right and walk towards Marlborough college. St Peters Church will be on your left. Turn right into Bridewell Street and continue walking until you reach the second Pedestrain crossing. Cross over and you will see a public pathway which leads to Preshute Church.

Walk over the footbridge and through the churchyard. You will then come out into an open area and will see some Tennis courts to the left. Turn left in front of the tennis courts and you will be on a public footpath. Walk down this path until you reach the mini roundabout at the end of George Lane. Turn left into Bridewell Street and walk up the road until you come across River Park on the right.

Walk down River Park until you see the small gap in the wall found at the of river Park. This is Figgins Lane.

Turn left and head up to the high street. Turning Right will take you back to Waitrose. There is a small alley way just before the estate agents, turn right down this road and you are back in the Waitrose car park.

You have now completed your walk.

Additional notes:

There are several places to start this walk. However starting in the high street will mean that you will be able to park easily and benefit from the many pubs and cafes either half way through the walk or at the end.
